As the temperatures begin to drop, ensuring that your furnace is ready to keep your home warm and safe becomes a top priority. At Baumann & DeGroot Heating and Cooling, we offer a furnace tune-up, a preventative maintenance service that keeps your heating system running smoothly. Not only does regular furnace maintenance extend the lifespan of your equipment, but it also helps prevent costly and inconvenient breakdowns during the coldest months of the year.

What Does a Furnace Tune-Up Involve?

A furnace tune-up is a scheduled service, meaning you can choose a convenient time for our technicians to visit. Here’s what you can expect from a typical furnace tune-up at Baumann & DeGroot:

  1. Meticulous Cleaning: Our technicians will thoroughly clean your furnace. Dirt and debris can accumulate over time, reducing efficiency and potentially causing damage to internal components. A clean furnace runs better and heats your home more efficiently, saving you money on energy bills.
  2. Heat Exchanger Inspection: The heat exchanger is a critical part of your furnace. We carefully inspect it for cracks, corrosion, or weak spots. A compromised heat exchanger can pose a serious safety hazard, potentially leaking carbon monoxide into your home. Our priority is your safety, so we take this part of the inspection very seriously.
  3. Burner Check: We’ll ensure that your furnace burners are firing correctly. Clean, even flames indicate that your system is burning fuel efficiently. If the burners aren’t functioning properly, your furnace may waste energy and could create harmful gases like carbon monoxide.
  4. Gas Pressure Adjustment: We measure the gas pressures to make sure they match factory specifications. This helps us create a snapshot of your furnace’s current condition, providing insight into its overall performance and potential future issues.

The Benefits of Regular Furnace Maintenance

One of the biggest advantages of scheduling a furnace tune-up is that it allows you to get ahead of potential failures before they happen. Without regular maintenance, components can wear down unnoticed, leading to unexpected breakdowns. And unfortunately, furnaces tend to fail at the most inconvenient times—during a holiday, a weekend, or in the middle of a cold snap.

Not only do these untimely breakdowns leave you scrambling for emergency repairs, but they can also cost a lot of money, especially if you need after-hours service. By staying on top of routine maintenance, you avoid the stress and expense of emergency repairs, keeping your furnace running reliably when you need it most.

A furnace tune-up is an affordable way to reduce long-term repair costs. By addressing minor issues before they become major problems, you’ll extend the life of your equipment and avoid costly repairs. It’s a good habit to get into as a homeowner and pays off in both comfort and peace of mind.

We recommend scheduling your tune-up at the start of the heating season, before the cold weather really sets in. At Baumann & DeGroot, we make it easy for you to book an appointment—just give us a call or submit a request through our website. We pride ourselves on our friendly, flexible service and ensure that a real person is always available to answer your call.

We also offer a Premier Service Club Agreement, which comes with additional benefits. As a club member, you’ll receive discounts on both maintenance and any future repairs, as well as priority service if you ever need our technicians after hours. One of the things our customers appreciate most is that we stay on top of your maintenance schedule—if you forget to book your annual tune-up, we’ll reach out and remind you.

Furnace tune up is a preventative maintenance service that we offer at Baumann & DeGroot. It’s a scheduled service, so you know in advance when we’re going to come. Our technicians arrive, and then we’ll go down to the furnace. Part of the thing that we do is we meticulously clean it. We want to make sure the furnace is safe and if the heat exchanger has any cracks in it, weak spots, corrosion, anything like that.

That is kind of the key piece that we’re really looking at because if that is compromised in any way, it can be a safety hazard for the family. That is something we’re always looking out for. From there, we’ll take a look at burners. We’ll make sure that all your flames are burning clean because if they are not burning clean, it’s a sign that it might not be efficient or once again has a potential to create carbon monoxide or other noxious gasses.

After we take a look at both the heat exchanger and the burners, we’ll take a look at gas pressures. We’ll make sure that those are matching what the specs are on the factory. We can at least create a snapshot of what the entire furnace is at right now. It’s just a nice way to get an idea of what the equipment is doing, where it’s at, and potentially where it’s going.

One of the biggest benefits to doing a furnace tune up is actually getting in front of potential failures. Maintenance is done on your time. Whereas if you don’t do maintenance, don’t get in front of some of these things and let some of these components wear out, the furnace just goes out when it wants to.

You always get those service calls, those failures, on Christmas Day, on a Saturday night, or a polar vortex. It’s just never convenient. It really puts you in a bind. It costs a lot of money to get a technician to come out after hours. It’s incredibly stressful and typically very expensive to deal with failures when they happen.

A tune up is a very affordable way to really take control of that situation, and it reduces your stress, reduces the cost of repairs in the long run. It’s just a really good habit to get into as a homeowner. Regular maintenance is crucial. We like to see our customers once a year for the furnace.

Typically towards the beginning of the heating season, we have a number of ways to schedule a tune up. You can give us a call. We’ve got friendly people that are working and a real person answers the phone. We can get that scheduled at a convenient time for you. We have requests on our website. We try to be very flexible.

We actually have a membership program. We call it a Premier Service Club Agreement. And with that contract, you do get some savings both on the maintenance and any potential repair costs. It also gives you priority in our service line in case you ever need our technicians after hours. One of the things that our customers actually like the most about our service contract is that we’re always on top of it, we’re keeping track of it, we know if you have not scheduled your tune up.

And so we’ll reach out to you in various ways just to make sure that you know and to get on the schedule. You owe it to your family to make sure that you’re providing safe, reliable heat all winter long.
