FAQs

Quick answers to frequently asked questions about our system maintenance.

Why is regular HVAC maintenance important?

Regular maintenance helps prevent unexpected breakdowns, extends the life of your equipment, improves energy efficiency, reduces the need for costly repairs, and gives you greater confidence that your system will perform reliably throughout its lifespan.

How often should I have my furnace serviced?

Manufacturers and HVAC professionals alike recommend having your furnace serviced once per year. Most homeowners choose to schedule this heading into the colder fall and winter seasons to make sure their system is ready for the coldest temperatures.

How often should I have my air conditioner serviced?

Like your furnace, your air conditioner should be serviced annually. You can schedule a separate spring/summer visit for your AC or combine it with your furnace maintenance into a single annual or semi-annual visit.

Can I have both my furnace and AC serviced in the same visit?

Yes. Baumann & DeGroot can service both your AC and furnace in a single annual visit, or you can schedule separate semi-annual visits for each system.

Why is there a temperature requirement for air conditioner maintenance?

Servicing an AC requires the technician to check the refrigerant charge and test how the system performs under real operating conditions. If the outdoor temperature is below 60°F, the system won’t behave the way it does in summer heat. Refrigerant pressures will be off, and certain components won’t cycle the way they normally would. Testing under those conditions can produce misleading readings.

What does a furnace maintenance visit include?

A furnace tune-up covers: standard filter (1″ or 2″) replacement, thermostat and unit operations check, blower and fan motor lubrication and adjustment, electrical connections check, condensate drain line and pump cleaning, burner assembly cleaning and adjustment, ignition system check, carbon monoxide and gas leak check, and heat exchanger check.

What does an air conditioner maintenance visit include?

An AC tune-up covers: standard filter replacement, thermostat and unit operations check, blower and fan motor lubrication and adjustment, electrical connections check, condensate drain line and pump cleaning, condenser coil cleaning and inspection, evaporator coil cleaning and inspection (if accessible), refrigerant charge check, and capacitor and AMP draw check.

Will annual maintenance help lower my utility bills?

Yes. A well-maintained system runs more efficiently, which means it uses less energy to heat or cool your home. This optimized performance can translate directly into lower monthly utility bills over time.

Can maintenance help me avoid emergency breakdowns?

Yes. Regular maintenance helps catch potential problems before they become major issues, significantly reducing the risk of unexpected system failures.

How does maintenance extend the life of my equipment?

Maintenance proactively addresses wear, lubrication needs, buildup, and small issues before they escalate. By keeping components clean and properly adjusted, your system works less hard and experiences less mechanical stress, adding years to its useful life.
