Ductless Mini Splits & Heat Pumps

Individualized Temperature Control

Ductless mini splits (aka ductless heat pumps) offer an energy-efficient way to control the temperature of individual spaces in rooms that need a little extra help. They combine heating and cooling capabilities to reduce energy consumption.

How it Works

Cooling

1)  Refrigerant is pumped in from outside through insulated lines, absorbing heat from the air before passing through an evaporator coil.

2)  Refrigerant absorbs heat inside, evaporating into gas and returning outside.

3)  The system circulates the cooled air back into the room.

Heating

1)  Mini splits extract heat from the air outside, transferring it indoors.

2)  Refrigerant harnesses this heat and is pumped inside through insulated lines where it passes through an evaporator coil.

3)  Air moving over the evaporator coil transfers heat from the refrigerant to the air.

4)  The now-cooled refrigerant begins another cycle by returning outside, bringing the cooled air with it.

Benefits

Energy Efficiency
They use less energy than traditional HVAC systems by only heating or cooling chosen rooms.

FAQs

Quick answers to frequently asked questions about ductless mini splits and heat pumps

What is a ductless mini split system?

A ductless mini split is a heating and cooling system that delivers climate control directly to individual rooms without the need for ductwork. It consists of an outdoor unit connected to one or more indoor units via insulated refrigerant lines, giving you precise temperature control room by room.

Can a ductless mini split both heat and cool?

Yes, that’s one of the key advantages of a ductless mini split. A single system handles both heating and cooling, making it a versatile year-round solution for any space.

Do ductless mini splits require regular maintenance?

Yes, ductless mini-splits require regular maintenance, including filter changes every 4-6 weeks and professional service annually. Regular care prevents mold growth and keeps coils clean.

Are ductless mini splits energy efficient?

Yes. Because they only heat or cool the rooms you choose rather than conditioning your entire home, mini splits use significantly less energy than traditional HVAC systems.

What is zone control and how does it work?

Zone control allows you to set different temperatures for different rooms or areas of your home independently. Rather than heating or cooling your whole house to one temperature, you can customize comfort in each zone.

Do ductless mini splits improve indoor air quality?

Ductless mini splits are equipped with advanced filtration systems that remove dust, pollen, pet dander, and other allergens from the air. This can be especially beneficial for people who suffer from allergies or asthma, as the air circulating through the room is consistently filtered.

How long does it take to install a ductless mini split system?

Because there’s no ductwork involved, ductless mini splits can often be installed in as little as one day

Can a ductless mini split be used as a supplement to my existing HVAC system?

Absolutely. Many homeowners use ductless mini splits to add comfort to specific problem areas, like a room that’s always too hot or too cold, without overhauling their existing system.

How many indoor units can one outdoor unit support?

A single outdoor unit can typically support multiple indoor units, allowing you to condition several rooms or zones from one system.

Are ductless mini splits noisy?

No. They’re specifically designed to operate quietly, so you can enjoy comfortable temperatures without the loud hum or blasting air you might associate with traditional HVAC systems.
